LGBT+ Rainbow Friends
Rainbow Communities works in partnership with Sustainable Communities to provide a welcoming, inclusive befriending service for LGBT+ people who may be experiencing loneliness, social isolation or who would benefit from regular social contact.
Whether you are looking for support or would like to become a volunteer befriender, Rainbow Friends offers opportunities to both receive and provide companionship within a safe, supportive community.
People wishing to receive befriending support should first register as a Sustainable Communities member- see https://sustainablecommunities.uk Once registered, you will be contacted you to discuss your needs and identify the most appropriate support available.
Working together with Sustainable Communities, we offer one-to-one befriending in a variety of ways, including:
- Face-to-face befriending (where appropriate and volunteer availability allows)
- Telephone befriending
- Online/video befriending
Our aim is to match every member with a suitable volunteer as quickly as possible. Whilst we endeavour to provide face-to-face support whenever we can, this depends on volunteer availability and location and therefore cannot always be guaranteed.
Rainbow Friends is a social befriending service designed to reduce loneliness, improve wellbeing and help people build meaningful social connections. Although we do not provide counselling or therapeutic services, we can signpost members to specialist health, wellbeing and community services where additional support is required.
Our online Members and Befrienders Forum meet quarterly, providing an opportunity for members and volunteers to share experiences, suggest activities and help shape the future development of the service.
